The Four of Me

ONE-ACT PLAY

THE FOUR OF ME.

Margaret Downton has a minor accident and ends up in Manor Hospital overnight. It is the hospital, in which she was born and is now earmarked for closure. Her concussion results in some episodes of her life being brought back to her mind. Three different alter egos emerge as real figures giving judgement on her present behaviour. Part of that behaviour is joining in a demonstration against the closure of the hospital. The alter egos do not approve. Fortified by alcohol and inspired by a political activist nurse, Margaret throws herself into the demo and ends up back in hospital.

When this play was first performed at Bognor, the late JOHN WELLS, satirist, playwright and actor, said of the play: “ ‘Four of Me’ is very funny, full of interesting ideas and grows organically to a natural climax”.
